It’s Wayback Wednesday: From the lookout to the west

Welcome to Wayback Wednesday sponsored by Cavalcade Color Lab! Every week, we’ll be sharing a vintage photo and asking our readers to chime in with anything you can recall about the photo, other related memories, or even a funny caption. Have some vintage photos of your own? Send them to [email protected] and we may share them with our readers!

This is a view looking west from the lookout. Can you identify any of the buildings? Take a guess at the year, too! Here’s a hint: it wasn’t in this century nor the last. (Photo: Muskoka Heritage Place Collection)

Last week we shared this photo with you:

This mid-1990s photo of the then-Huntsville and Burk’s Falls Ambulance Service came to us courtesy of Muskoka Ambulance Communication Service Manager, Judy Moore. It elicited plenty of comments from Doppler readers who recognized the faces in this picture (and even some who were in the picture) and had high praise for the services they provided.

Thanks to all who shared names and memories with us!

  1. As All Saints’ Anglican Church appears in the upper mid left of the picture, the date would have to be in the late 1890s [1896-98] The stone building was completed in 1894. Although indistinct in the photo, the grounds do not look like a construction site.
