On February 11, 2021 at approximately 10:45 a.m. members of the Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft from vehicles in progress. Concerned citizens alerted the OPP of persons entering cars in parking lots of businesses in the area of King William St. and Cliffe Ave.
OPP located a male and female on Menominee St. and their initial investigation revealed that they were possession of stolen property and the two were arrested for theft.
Further investigation resulted in police locating a quantity of controlled substances in possession of the male and female. A total of 2.7 grams of fentanyl, and 1.0 gram of cocaine were seized. While being transported to the Huntsville OPP Detachment the male kicked and dented an OPP cruiser.
The following two people have been charged:
Robert Merkel (32), of Huntsville, Ontario
-Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance- Fentanyl contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drugs and Substances Act.
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 355 (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
-Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
-Mischief destroy or damage property contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Ashley Peavoy (30), of Sprucedale, Ontario
-Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance- Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drugs and Substances Act.
-Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance- Fentanyl contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drugs and Substances Act.
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 355 (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
-Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The two accused are being held for bail scheduled for February 12, 2021 in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville.
