Township of Lake of Bays hires additional bylaw enforcement officer

Director of Building & Bylaw Services, Stephen Watson, told Lake of Bays councillors at their April 9 meeting that a new bylaw officer had been hired, an item approved in the Township’s 2024 budget.

“We received 14 candidates and 14 really good candidates. It was a difficult decision.” Watson said four interviews were conducted which included Andrew Stillar. Watson said Stillar has 15 years of experience, knows Muskoka well and lives here. “He will be a very good fit for our township,” Watson told councillors.

Prompted by Lake of Bays Mayor Terry Glover, Watson told council that more than five years ago the municipality had a bylaw officer working 0.25 per cent of the time. “And our bylaw complaints weren’t answered very well.” He said council then agreed to hire a full-time bylaw enforcement officer but complaints have increased. “Council keeps passing… bylaws, and we didn’t have the staff to do so [enforce them], and our complaints are taking longer and longer to handle, so council agreed to hire a second bylaw officer to help with the workload, and we trust once he [Stillar] gets his feet wet and in place that we’ll be able to supply the public with better service,” said Watson.

I’ve heard this name before. Did he not used to work for the Town of Huntsville in some capacity?
