THIS BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON

good business is good for everyone
Your sweet tooth is no match for the dizzying array of delightful goodies at Huntsville’s newest bakery and café, Whimsical Bakery.
The storefront on Brunel is an extension of owner Christine Kropp’s custom order bakery that has been enchanting locals with creations as fun and beautiful as they are delicious since 2008.
“When people came to pick up their orders, they wanted to know where the display case was. Where was all the fun? It’s here,” she says.
And fun it is. Just walking in to the café is sensory heaven with wonderful smells emanating from the kitchen, bright colours in all corners, and everywhere mouth-watering sweet treats.
The small seating area offers a place to enjoy a coffee, espresso, cappuccino or tea, one of the bakery’s signature gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and homemade soups, or a tasty concoction like a buttertart sundae.
Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, homemade soups, and pot pies are among the scrumptious lunch and light dinner options at Whimsical Bakery
“We’ve tied all of our sweet treats together,” laughs Christine. “Pick a buttertart or your favourite square or cookie, add your favourite Kawartha ice cream and some sprinkles and you have a unique sundae.”
Many locals and visitors may have wondered where Yog’s frozen yogurt disappeared to. You’ll find frozen yogurt at Whimsical Bakery, too.
If you need a quick dessert for a celebration, the bakery has eight-inch buttercream cakes – vanilla and chocolate – ready to be customized with a message. Or select a variety of four-inch treats – tarts, pies, cheesecakes, and even 2-layer cakes – to please everyone.
Cupcakes and cookies are crowd-pleasing favourites at any party or celebration
With Mother’s Day arriving this Sunday (May 8), the bakery has some really fun options. Instead of giving mom flowers, you could give her a cookie or cupcake bouquet. Or a gift basket filled with biscuits, jam and tea, or an assortment of goodies and a pound of coffee.
As a gift for mom, why not switch things up with a cupcake or cookie bouquet, a special cake, or a gift basket filled with yummy treats, jams, and tea or coffee?
Christine and her team create beautiful wedding and celebration cakes, of course, and every one of them is unique. “You can look at the photos for inspiration but we try to have make each one as unique as the people it’s for.”
Wedding cake styles are as diverse as the brides and grooms they celebrate. Every Whimsical Bakery cake is a unique creation.
They’ll also cater for cottage events or business meetings, bringing breakfast or brunch treats, coffee and muffins, or setting up a sweets table for your guests to enjoy.
What you won’t find at Whimsical Bakery are traditional baked goods like breads and pastries. “We have lots of whimsy, lots of fun.”
