The spirit of the people of Huntsville never ceases to amaze

The good people at Motivations Fitness are hosting a ‘spin-a-thon’ in the lobby of the Summit Centre on Saturday April 11 from 8 am to 1 pm in support of Dave McGuey and his Robin’s Rebels cycling team.

Dave and his team of local men, Bill Coon, Doug Hogue, Ray Love, Dean Smales and Dr. Greg Stewart are taking on the two-day Ride to Conquer Cancer and raising money and awareness along the way for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre – one of the top 5 cancer research hospitals in the world.

The spin-a-thon organizers appeared in front of Huntsville Council to talk about their event but also to cajole councillors and staff into participating. And sign up volunteers they did. Mayor Scott Aitchison has agreed to spin in the first heat at 8am and asked for a paramedic, councillor Dan Armour, to join him in case CPR was necessary. Other councillors, Alcock, Stone and Terziano, as well as many Town staff, also agreed to spin in support of cancer care and research.

People interested in participating may sign up at Motivations Fitness. They ask participants to raise at least $50 in pledges.

Spinners love nothing more than an audience as they sweat and groan, so make sure you stop by the Summit Centre on April 11 to cheer them on.

Donations can also be made to the team on-line at http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Toronto2015?team_id=74060&pg=team&fr_id=1523
