It’s officially. There is now a race for the position of Lake of Bays Mayor. Linda Thompson handed in her nomination papers before the deadline yesterday at 2 p.m.
Thompson, a Dwight resident, said she first discovered Lake of Bays in 1976 working for the Hancock family at the Spring Lake Motel and Restaurant. In 1982, she and Barry Thomspson bought their first home in Dwight, where they now live on a full-time basis. Dwight is also where she began her volunteer experience, having been a volunteer firefighter, a member on the board of the Port Cunnington Community Centre, and a member on the board of the Maple Syrup Association, according to her Facebook page.
Thomspon said she is no stranger to the municipal council having served on the municipal council of Port Hope for 14 years, eight of them as Mayor.
“I know that promising to increase services while reducing taxes is impractical and unrealistic,” she said, promising to:
- Build on the municipal review work to date and review all service levels in the municipality and their cost.
- Provide solid decision-making weighing all sides of the issue “and making choices to get the job done.”
- Manage with clear strategies, policies, and protocols that consider the impact on the community at large, including individual taxpayers, customers, and the environment.
- Always consider the need of the taxpayer
Thompson said she would take a collaborative approach between all stakeholders and make sure everyone’s voice is heard.
Thompson will be running for Mayor of Lake of Bays against incumbent Terry Glover.
