Recently, community members took to social media wondering when the Conroy Park and Utterson Park tennis courts will be available for play, especially now that spring is here.
Work on the Utterson Park and Conroy Park tennis courts includes demolition and removal of the existing courts, resurfacing, court surfacing, and lining for new multi-use courts. The work was expected to be completed last July, but the Town issued a release last August noting that the work had been delayed due to inclement weather.
“We recognize that the community is eager to have these courts reopened and we look forward to doing this once the work is complete and the courts have passed inspection. At this time, we are waiting on confirmation from the contractor on their spring schedule,” said Town Manager of Parks and Cemeteries Tina Scott-Burns.
“The weather we had in the fall caused project delays, as the final stages of work required dry conditions. As noted previously we are waiting for the contractor to confirm their spring schedule to complete the work and then will inspect to ensure standards are met. We anticipate keeping the community informed about the reopening and will communicate that as soon as we can open the gates!” she added.

Right on! Thomas Spivak: I drive by the Utterson site quite often. It seemed that the contractor just tore the place up and then kinda’ lost interest. But that seems to be the way with a lot of Town and District projects. Contracts are given at ridiculous costs. Both levels seem to hemorrhage money ’cause there’s more where it came from.
I was around where a deck was built last summer. Sometimes nobody was there and sometimes four people. A job that should have taken a week at most was drug out over about 6 weeks. I can’t imagine what the price was for the job. Likely in the range of what the Devil paid for Hell. C’mon!! Location. Location. Location! You didn’t think he got it free.
I shudder to think what it’s going to cost to give away the plants from the front of the Town Hall. Just kidding. I hope.
The Utterson courts appear to be finished but the inclement weather excuse was baloney, those courts sat for the entire summer torn up and no one came back to do any work.
The entire park was closed.
It was a crappy contractor pick and that all it is.
