Temporary parking and lane restrictions will be in place on Main Street from 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20 until the morning of Thursday, May 21, 2020.
Parking Restrictions and Single Lane Closure
Beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 all street parking on both sides of Main Street from Lorne Street to the swing bridge will be temporarily unavailable until the morning of Thursday, May 21, 2020. All sidewalks will remain open and pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained for curbside pickups.
During this time, traffic will be reduced to one lane as ground penetrating radar work takes place to assist in the design for the Main Street Upgrades and Streetscaping project. A map of the affected area is located here. Public parking lots remain available and accessible and can be found on the Town of Huntsville’s website here.
What is ground penetrating radar?
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is an effective technology for locating utilities and underground anomalies with minimal impact to existing surfaces. It is often used to detect plastic, fiber optic, cable TV lines, water and concrete sewer lines, ducts, chambers, bedrock, etc. with the main focus of this investigation to identify bedrock elevations.
As residents and business owners in the Town of Huntsville are aware, plans are underway to upgrade infrastructure and streetscape downtown Huntsville in the future. Although timeline discussions are underway, the District and Town of Huntsville continue to move forward with engagement activities and onsite investigations to inform, support and provide accurate plans moving forward.
