A fantastic overall season by the Huntsville Strikers U12 Girls team has culminated in a Huronia District Soccer League title.
The nearly undefeated Strikers finished with a record of 11-2-1 good for 35 points, and secured their championship in style, defeating the Bradford Wolves 5-1 at McCulley-Robertson Sports Complex on the final day of their season. Goals were scored by Waverly Earl, Aliyah Loranger, Sophia Maduri (2), and Andi Stephenson.
To win the title, the team needed to beat its two main rivals in its final two games and did so by also beating the North Bay Lakers 3-1 on August 14.
Goals in that game were scored by Sophia Maduri, Olivea O’Halloran and Andi Stephenson. The trio also finished in the Top 10 in the league in scoring with Maduri winning the scoring title with 33 goals.
Goalkeeper Lochlann Menard led a stingy defence for the Strikers in both key victories.
Featuring fantastic play throughout the roster of players born in either 2010 and 2011, the Huntsville squad coached by Ted Maduri and assistant Kate Kerr (and managed by Brywn Perera) represented their club and community with style and heart all season long.
The U12 Girls Strikers team featured: Esperanza Coulson, Kaelyn Doughty, Sophie Dumont, Waverly Earl, Isabelle Edgecombe, Sydney Kerr, Aliyah Loranger, Olivia Mackinnon, Sophia Maduri, Jovie Moore, Lochlann Menard, Olivea O’Halloran, Raven Patterson, Violet Perera, Myleigh Reesor, Andi Stephenson, Kaley Verheye and Fiona Wilson.
“It goes without saying that this has been a dream season,” says Maduri. “The girls are all awesome, we are so proud of this team. The best part is knowing we’ve built a solid foundation for viable and strong teams for years to come. It will be amazing for them and for us to witness.”
