Spruce Glen Public School released a statement yesterday to notify its community that someone from the school has tested positive for COVID-19.
Parents of any child who was a close contact of that case also received separate communication from the school, including a letter from the health unit with directions for required action they need to take.
The school has not revealed whether the confirmed case is a staff member or student.
“We know this information may be upsetting. We are working closely with Trillium Lakelands District School Board, our transportation consortium, before and after care program, and SMDHU,” said principal Kelly Picken in the statement. “Together, we are taking necessary steps to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 within our school community. Due to privacy laws, the health unit will not release personal information about any staff or student who is ill unless deemed necessary.”
For more information regarding COVID-19, including information and resources for families, visit the SMDHU website or contact Health Connection at 705-721-7520 (toll free 1-877-721-7520).

When exactly were the parents notified? Was it in time before the students who may have been affected took it home to their family over Christmas, who were also entertaining family from out of the district?
Barbara Ketchabaw says
I think that’s proof we shouldn’t be entertaining family from out of the district.
