This sign outside a residence on Jessup Lane is a good reminder to just slow down.
We seem to want everything fast these days—fast food, fast cars, fast Internet—it’s no wonder so many of us are feeling stressed.
For all you speed demons out there, particularly back road speed warriors, as of April 1, 2022 if you’re caught going 40km/h above the posted speed limit, where the speed limit is set at 80km/h or less, you could face stunt driving charges. That not only means that your insurance premiums will go up but you’ll also have to take a driver improvement course within 60 days of conviction or get your driver’s licence revoked.
In zones where the posted speed limit is above 80 km/h, anyone caught going 50km/h or more could also face stunt driving charges.
You could also face a 30-day roadside driver’s licence suspension, a 14-day vehicle impoundment, and a maximum fine of $10,000 and up to six months in jail.
According to police in 2021 there were 81 speed-related fatalities in Ontario, the highest it’s been in ten years.
So, happy Saturday! Slow down and smell the road.
