Pete Wallback: It’s easy to see why Nathan Cockram feels as he does. All you need do is remember back to our last election. Everyone who professed to be a Progressive Conservative assured us that without an MPP of PC persuasion, there was no way we would get two full service hospitals. That was the carrot attached to the stick. It was just the way it was done. There was professed reward for our support.
Well we may be getting hospitals. Who can say if and when for sure. But we got MPP Smith and there have been riches attached. New money for sure.
But that largess could have arrived for a few different reasons. New money as bribe: along the line of Ford giving me $200.00 of my own cash back. There needs to be a lot more than that for my vote. Hell!! I’m not cheap. Nor easily duped. It could also be to keep the infidels from the gates and maintain a PC bastion here in Muskoka. Also, as Jonathan Wiebe comments, if the riding were lost, what would be the ante to get it back?
And as an afterthought. I don’t want Premier Ford to feel that accepting the return of a bit more of my own money is beneath me. No way.
Bring it on.
They say a new broom sweeps cleaner, All the best in the upcoming election Mr.Richter!
Mike Scheiner has made huge gains in his riding because he is not afraid of being a squeaky wheel. Has GS ever stood up to Doug Ford especially with the following:
-50 billion + for a tunnel under the 401
-Dirty Geeenbelt land deals
-10 B to build Hwy 413
-170 M to relocate the Science Centre
-175M to run an unnecessary election
-3B for $200 election cheque bribes
-12M to buy out the Beer Store contract
-231M to cancel renewable energy projects
The Ontario debt has increased by 100Billion since Ford took office. This can’t continue!
Nathan Cockram – quick correction. Ken Black was PSM’s MPP and the Minister of Tourism and Recreation in David Peterson’s cabinet in 1989 – 90.
To Joan Tanaka: Graydon Smith is one of those good people who is committed to making PSM better. And he has! Don’t confuse him with Doug Ford, even though they are on the same team, Doug Ford has made some decisions that are totally baffling to me, but his name will not be on the ballot that I vote with. I doubt that Matt Richter would have enough influence to get 0ne billion dollars for our hospital redevelopment if he gets elected. Matt Richter is probably a good person but he is a total unknown in provincial politics outside of PSM. As far as door knocking in the winter, that isn’t much of a commitment considering we are used to winter weather.
Nathan… A good government supports all of its people, not just the ones who voted for them. The idea that Parry Sound–Muskoka would be “forgotten” without a PC MPP isn’t how democracy should work. Are you saying the Ford Government plays favourites for political gain? I wouldn’t vote for someone like that…
While that may seem logical Nathan, just imagine how much the sitting government (assuming Ford wins) would like to spend in the riding to win it back?! 🙂
Lynn Bennett – there is no working across the aisle with a majority government. That’s not how it works.
If Richter is elected, PSM will have no representation whatsoever in government, and we can say goodbye to the hundreds of millions of dollars that have been brought into the riding since 2022.
Graydon Smith is the first cabinet Minister from PSM since Frank Miller, and unsurprisingly, the region is now reaping the benefits.
The onlt change you will get with a Green member is a riding that is forgotten. You may not like it but that is the hard truth of our system. I for one care too much about PSM to see this happen.
Really amazed that good people continue to put themselves forward as candidates in these elections. In particular this quick election in the middle of winter requires a lot of commitment to democracy to knock on doors across this huge constituency. Matt Richter is one of those good persons ready to listen to your concerns about your life in Parry Sound Muskoka(PSM). As Mr Schreiner has said, we in PSM are Mr Richter’s “boss” not Mr. Schreiner. I do not think that our current Premier would give that power to us.
Not a single promise they make will be delivered, as they have zero chance of forming government. You may not like it, but that’s the way it works.
Might as well burn your ballot paper.
I have met both Schreiner and Richter. I am impressed and believe they will work across the aisle to make things happen for the people of Muskoka — Parry Sound.
I fully recognize that the Greens will not form the government, and I believe they can make a difference.
