PMCN awarding seven $1,000 innovation awards to businesses in the region

As part of a Regional Innovation Strategy, with Chamber, Economic Development and regional representatives, the Parry Sound-Muskoka Community Network (PMCN) conducted a survey of business owners in winter of 2017/2018 asking them about innovation. 85 per cent of respondents were interested in exploring ways to make their business more innovative. The types of support respondents mentioned they would find most helpful to assist their organization in adopting more innovation were: funding for innovation; sharing examples of innovation; and connecting innovators to those who aspire to innovation.

As a first step to addressing some of these concerns, PMCN offered five Innovation Awards of $1,000 each at the 2018 IMPACT Awards in March at the JW Marriott in Minett. This was a sellout evening that also included the Muskoka Founders Circle providing their first award to an early stage business.

This year, PMCN is offering seven different innovation awards of $1,000 each. One of the new awards is for innovation by a Social Enterprise and the other is for innovation by a small community (less than 2,500 population).

“We’re working hard to help spread the understanding and importance for organizations to focus on innovation which is a very different way of thinking to ensure their future survival in this rapidly changing economy,” said Stuart Morley, Executive Director, Parry Sound Muskoka Community Network.

The Muskoka Founders Circle will be offering two awards this year. (https://www.muskokafounderscircle.com/).

The application for the Innovation Awards involves a one page, or a two-minute video of why your organization should win and the deadline is March 1, 2019. You can see last year’s videos at https://www.pmcn.ca/iawards/

The awards will be presented on April 11, 2019 at the IMPACT Awards at the JW Marriott in Minett. The three finalists in each category will have a professional video made (worth $3,000) and tickets to attend the Awards.

Please encourage organizations (business and nonprofit) in your community to apply!
