Our Town with Grant Nickalls: The return of Molly and Tom (a.k.a. spring)

Each week, Huntsville’s own Grant Nickalls entertains us, inspires us, make us laugh and sometimes makes us cry, but always he reminds us why Huntsville is the best place on earth to call home. These were some of the Our Town videos that had you talking the most.

This week in Our Town, for Grant a definitive sign that spring has returned (despite what’s going on with the weather) is when Molly and Tom, a pair of mallards, make their appearance once again.

  1. Grant:
Having so much fun with the ongoing annual episodes of Molly and Tom…and duck love or lust…whatever works for them…on my lake its the return of the Bufflehead Ducks…these really rare divers arrive just after the ice goes out in the Spring and disappear until the ice forms in the Fall where they magically arrive and stay until the lake is almost frozen over…and then off to warmer climes I guess. There are several pair of Buffleheads so I can’t give them names but they are so welcome in Spring and Fall….looking forward to future episodes featuring Molly and Tom.

Well thanks to you Grant…we also have a pair of Mallards in the spring pond out back which is temporary. I have always been anxious when they arrive saying “No no this is not a good place for a home…It is temporary!” Until I read somewhere not to worry because it was only a temporary need for them…but the article did not say why. So today, thanks to you, I now know what they are doing out there! And will leave them in peace …must say they’ve never paid any attention to me!
