Our Town with Grant Nickalls: There’s no need for nastiness

Each week, Huntsville’s own Grant Nickalls will inspire us, entertain us, make us laugh or perhaps cry, but always he will remind us why Huntsville is the best place on earth to call home.

Recent online comments about a Town employee have Grant wondering how we got from respectful disagreement to being downright mean.

I will echo the sentiments of Grant and the other two comments to date. At times working in municipal government must seem like a thankless job with endless no-win situations. Teri has poured her heart and soul into this community. When comments cross the line into personal attacks, it says more about the person making the comments than the target. Thank you Teri for your service.

Well said, Grant. I think that those of us who know the real Teri are in a state of embarrassment and shock that things have gotten so personally insulting. Debate does not need to be personally insulting, and it is very unfortunate when it does.
Citizens of our town need to be proud that we have her as part of our team, and stand up for her when the negatives start to take over. They could not be more wrong in their personal attacks.
I hope that those who know her step up and are heard. She deserves it.

  3. Thank you Grant for your kind words, support and for sharing your thoughts publicly regarding Teri Souter. As all of us know Teri is an extremely intelligent, kind, talented, dedicated and hard working person. As members of this community we are all extremely blessed to have such a special person looking out for our interests and preserving our heritage in Huntsville as Manager of Arts Culture and Heritage. As a full-time resident of Huntsville since 1968 , a place I call home, I am honoured to have known Teri Souter for a very long time and consider her a friend. Her contribution and benefit to this community has not been a small one. Huntsville is a better place due to her efforts and involvement in her field of expertise. Thank you Teri for your efforts and all you do for our town. You are an inspiration! Jan Nyquist.
