OPP investigating sudden death in Go Home River

On February 11, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the OPP received a report from a witness of an individual in the water of Go Home River. The individual was believed to be a snowmobiler that hadn’t been seen for approximately 18 hours. Due to the unpredictable weather and ice conditions, the water was deemed hazardous with flowing water and the individual was not able to be reached from the shore.

Members of the Bracebridge Detachment along with the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Aviation, and Under Water Search and Rescue Unit (USRU) were dispatched to the location which was water access only.

Sadly, the 46-year-old snowmobiler was located deceased shortly after by the OPP Aviation and ERT.

The OPP would like to thank the community for their concern and recognize that incidents like these can have an emotional impact. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
