Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating an overnight fatal head-on crash involving two snowmobiles on the ice surface waterway known as Lost Channel in Georgian Bay Township that claimed the life of one driver.
Emergency services from OPP, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services and Georgian Bay Township Fire Services responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:50 p.m. February 16, 2024, on the Lost Channel.
The involved drivers, one being a 52-year-old male of Erin, Ontario was pronounced deceased at a nearby marina after an exhaustive three and half hour land-based rescue by EMS through the bush. The other driver, a 50-year-old male of Puslinch, Ontario was located near the crash scene and found to be uninjured.
Officers are being assisted by members of the OPP Central Region Technical Traffic Unit (TTCI) in the continuing investigation into the cause of the crash.
