Thank you to Huntsville resident Wayne D. Shaw for sharing a photo he took of the new Northlander passenger train as it approached the Huntsville area early yesterday afternoon.
“It has been undergoing tests out of Mimico for the past month or so, but this is the first run up the Newmarket Sub, which is the track going to North Bay. Just recently, Ontario Northland acquired this
line from CN. Your tax dollars at work (and actually doing something worthwhile)! 🙂

Hooray for Northern Ontario! Such progress offering modern, spacious, luxury travel accommodation including dining. What a blessing this will be for our seniors, disabled, medically challenged and other northerners. It will increase tourism, stimulate the economy, lower our carbon footprints while taking the pressure off Highway 11 which is plagued with accidents and road closures. The recent schedule of fares seems appropriate and comparable to the bus rates. Say goodbye to winter travel through blizzards, and snow drifts along narrow dangerous highway 11. Cochrane here I come. All Aboard !!
Looks cute! I thought they’d just plug a standard locomotive on the front end. Did not expect designer decor all round. Is the front “moose proof”?
The big questions I have are:
What are the proposed ticket prices for travel?
I’ve seen a tentative schedule but is this the real one? We need this data too.
Finally, what is the start of service date? We have been talking about this for so long I have no idea when real service, you know where you can ride on it, actually may start.
Can someone answer these?
Isn’t this a beautiful sight! And the second train set is already in Toronto being tested. 5-6 months from now we could be riding that train! The potential schedule is on the Ontario Northland website but ticket pricing will be available sometime this summer I expect.
Thanks Wayne for sharing à great photo.
