‘No daytime burning’ rules now in effect

A message from the Muskoka Fire Chiefs

The Muskoka Fire Chiefs would like to remind residents that the “no daytime burning” rules take effect from April 1 to October 3 each year.

Though there may still be a small amount of snow cover on the ground in most areas, conditions can change rapidly at this time of year.

Although the forest fire danger rating is currently at low for Muskoka, a total fire ban may be put in effect in the near future due to possible lower staffing levels and rapidly changing weather conditions.

“This is the time of year that conditions can become dangerous until we get the green-up in the forests,” said Bracebridge Fire Chief Murray Medley. “We ask that residents observe the no daytime burning rules and adhere to any burning bans that are put in place. A grass or brush fire can tax our resources that are already being stretched by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

For the daily fire danger rating, please call (toll free) 1-877-847-1577. For information on burning in your municipality, please contact your local bylaw department.
