Four MUSAC swimmers shine at Canadian championships

Four Muskoka Aquatic Club swimmers – Allison Goldring, Caroline Lewitt, Mark Cox, and Samuel Kuntz –qualified for the Canadian Junior Championships that took place July 26-30 at the Scarborough Pan Am pool.

Caroline qualified based on her times from last season’s Age Group Nationals in Calgary. She races for CW (Chelsea-Wesminster) in London, UK throughout the year and trains and races for MUSAC at all Canadian National level meets within the season. Allison, Mark and Samuel all qualified at the Summer Provincials in early July.

Coach Morgan Kierstead was excited to say that “the results from both the Canadian Junior Championships and the Canadian Senior Championships this summer were a direct reflection of the hard work, dedication and heart our swimmers, coaches and club have put into competitive swimming performance. Our MUSAC swimmers represented our club with pride and really showed off their talent on a national scale. They broke over a dozen club records, achieved new qualification standards and placed at the top of their age groups within the country. I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts and achievements.”

Day 1 Preliminary

Caroline qualified for the A finals with an 8th place and a best time in the 100M Fly.
Mark qualified for the B finals in the 200M Backstroke with a 10th place. He also broke a club record in 100M Fly. Samuel qualified for the B Finals when he took 1st place in the 200M Backstroke.

Day 1 Finals – Results

Caroline set a new club record with a time of 1:05.87 and placed 8th.
Mark placed 19th in the 200M Backstroke.
Samuel won the B Final and placed 11th in the 200M Backstroke with a new club record and Canadian Senior National standard.

Day 2 Preliminary
Caroline and Allison both made it into the B Final for the 100M Freestyle, placing 13th and 17th.
Great accomplishments!

Day 2 Finals – Results
Both Caroline and Allison held their spots in the 100M Freestyle. Allison placed 18th beating her preliminary time and Caroline placed 13th breaking the one minute mark for the first time, with a club record of 59.96. What a thrill – congrats, Caroline!

Day 3 Preliminary
Allison earned a spot in the 100M Breaststroke for the B Final ranked 15th.

Day 3 Finals – Results
Allison betters her time from the preliminary again and moves from 15th place to 12th place overall in the 100M Breaststroke final.

Day 4 Preliminary
Caroline was in the 100M Backstroke A Final with a 10th place.
Samuel also broke the one minute mark for the first time for the long course in the 100M Backstroke with a new club record, narrowly missing the Senior National Standard. He definitely earned a spot in the A Final, placing 10th.
Allison qualified for the 100M Breaststroke A Final by placing 6th.

Day 4 Finals – Results
Caroline and Samuel both placed 10th in the 100M Backstroke with each having strong final swims. Allison placed 5th in the 200M Breaststroke with her best time.

Final Day – Preliminary
Caroline heads into the A Finals with a 4th place in the 50M Freestyle, along with a new club record.
Allison qualifies for the B Finals in the 50M Freestyle placing 16th and then 19th in the B Final for the 200 IM.
Mark finished the meet with a 3 second best time in the 200 IM.

Day 5 Finals – Results
Caroline crushed her 50M Freestyle time and placed 5th with a new club record of 27.41.
Allison bests her preliminary time and ties for 18th in 50M Freestyle as well as placing 20th in the 200 IM. Well done, girls!

Samuel raced at his first ever Canadian Senior Championships on Friday, August 4 in Montreal. Sam improved his best time in the 200M Backstroke to a 2:09.87 earning a new club record for MUSAC. He ranked 26th out of the country’s fastest 46 Male 200M Backstroke swimmers. You have made the MUSAC team very proud, Samuel. Congrats!

Registration for the Muskoka Aquatic Club’s 2017-2018 season is now open online at musacswimming.ca. MUSAC anticipates that the swimming groups will fill up by the beginning of September. The 2017-2018 swim season starts Monday, September 18.
