Huntsville’s west end is about to get more commercial space and two residential apartments.
The site plan application for 232 Main Street West, beside Algonquin Café, was before Huntsville’s development services committee on May 15. The owner of the food establishment is also in the process of developing the 1,394 square metre property next door.
Plans involve a 234.1m² commercial building, with two apartments on the second floor.
“It’s good to see this section of town getting some new development,” said the planner for the applicant, John Gallagher. “It’s also providing two more apartments and, again, well needed in Huntsville.”
Committee members gave the development the thumbs up.
It is still not clear what business will lease the commercial space or how many bedrooms the apartments will contain. You can find the planning department’s full report here.

I have a Question for u guys. How much will it be a month people? Hopefully we can afford it.
When Algonquin Cafe submitted their site plan for the café property, it had included a building behind the cafe. It was to be a four-plex, two rental apartments ground level and two above. It was my understanding that two of the units would be accessible. Perhaps it simply has been delayed.
It’s a shame that the building wasn’t divided side-to-side instead of top-to-bottom. That would not only allow for two smaller commercial spaces; but also allow for an accessible, ground-floor apartment.
