A man landed in jail after showing erratic and dangerous behaviour at an area gas station.
Afjal Patel, recently led guilty in a Bracebridge courtroom to theft of marijuana, uttering threats and breaching court orders.
Court heard that on Oct 18, 2024 police were called to Wahta Mohawk Territory for a disturbance. The caller said a man, later identified as Patel, had attended a gas station and cannabis dispensary demanding to be let into the dispensary, which was closed at the time. He then threatened to blow up the gas station and began pouring gasoline from one of the pumps onto the ground.
Staff then allowed Patel into the dispensary, where he took a marijuana cigarette without paying, went outside and smoked it.
Patel was arrested at the scene and spent 89 days in pre-trial custody.
He was sentenced to time served, a conditional discharge and 12 months probation.

Re: previous poster who blames the federal government for one person’s decisions.
Sometimes people freak out. Sometimes people are just jerks.
Making broad assumptions and then applying them to fit your personal political narrative is disingenuous.
I’m surprised the Doppler allows off-topic, false-equivalency responses like the above. Comments should be directed to the article and provide some sort of community insight or additional context – not be used as a forum for grudges.
Our liberal government under Justin Trudeau has allowed this kind of behavior to happen for the last decade , a slap on the wrist at best , and they are back on the street to re-offend again ! Time for a change In government, hopefully not under the leadership of Carney , but a fiscally strong and responsible government under the conservatives .
Time to clean up the corruption and the swamp Trudeau generated with his woke policies!
