The MBRP Major Midget Otters hosted 10 teams in Huntsville for the Aubrey Percival Major Midget Classic from October 26-28, 2018 at the Canada Summit Centre. Overall, it was a great home tournament with excellent competition.
“Even though our team did not leave the Summit Centre with the gold medals, I was pleased with the way my team played,” said Head Coach Jason Farnsworth. “The boys played a couple of tough teams and they played with grit and heart.”
The Major Midget Otters began their weekend with a Friday game against the Ennismore Eagles, skating to a 2-2 tie. Then on Saturday morning, the Otters met the Stittsville Rams on the Jack for their second round robin game and their second tie of the tournament: 1-1 at the final buzzer. Huntsville won their third game 4-1 against the Renfrew Timberwolves earning them a spot in the semi-final game on Sunday.
The Otters faced off against the Erin Hillsburgh Devils in the semi-final. It was a goal-for-goal game with all players skating fiercely and fighting for the win. Huntsville narrowly lost the match up by a score of 4-3. The Devils advanced to the finals against the Stittsville Rams, winning the championship game in overtime, again with a score of 4-3.
“My boys demonstrated their ability to play as a team, which we will continue to build on as the season progresses,” said Farnsworth.
The MBRP Major Midget Otters will have more time to practice as a team as they are on the road this weekend for a game against the Oro Thunder on Saturday and the Midland Centennials on Sunday. The weekend of November 8-11, the Midgets will travel to Strathroy for the Rep Olympics Tournament. Good luck, Major Midget Otters!
