Like many people, local fibre artist Pam Carnochan has been wondering what she can do to help the people of war-torn Ukraine. She found her answer at a recent concert at the Algonquin Theatre by singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk.
Kreviazuk is of Ukrainian descent and issued a call to action to support Unite With Ukraine, a non-governmental organization supplying safety equipment that includes medical supplies like individual first aid kits, fuel, night-vision goggles, protective equipment like helmets and vests, and communication systems to those on the ground defending Ukraine’s democracy.
“I was very moved by Chantal’s passion and her comments. I had the privilege of having a one-to-one conversation with her backstage and I couldn’t not do something,” said Carnochan. “She is a very passionate advocate.”
Carnochan will be offering her signature Watercolour with Wool workshop on April 2. One hundred per cent of funds from that workshop will be donated to Unite with Ukraine.
Attendees will create their own 5×7 Watercolour with Wool, in the design of their choice—abstract, landscape, portrait—with all materials and instruction provided.
Register for the workshop, which runs Saturday, April 2 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at morethanjustart.ca. Space is limited, but Carnochan will run a second workshop in the afternoon if there is enough interest.
