LCBO employees began pulling all U.S. products yesterday in response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
Today, the shelves at most stores have been completely emptied, and you can no longer purchase items such as California wine and American spirits.
An LCBO employee who did not want to be identified noted, “There are many other products to replace American spirits and wine with.”

Good. Let’s keep the U.S. products off of the shelves until what’s his face comes to his senses. (That’s when pigs fly!). Thank you to our LCBO for all of the hard work you have done to empty the shelves and rearrange them to make the shelves aesthetically pleasing. Let’s hope Dougie doesn’t change his mind, again.
Kudos to LCBO! We need to stand united, and perhaps these products can even be returned as unsold—something that happens in many industries and would send an even stronger message. There are plenty of global alternatives to U.S. products. Let’s not weaken our unity by lamenting what’s being taken off the shelves. If things get tougher—and they likely will—let’s show what we’re made of and be smarter consumers. Elbows up, Canadians!
Maybe the LCBO has the same deal as big box American companies, they don’t pay until product sold? We are fighting a David & Goliath scenario if we don’t do something we are dead in the water!! Sadly for the wine industry from California right up to Washington State who are some of the nicest people to deal with which I experienced in my 20 years owning a restaurant and visiting. These people will hurt somewhat and will standup to this bully down south
I guess LCBO was charged less for this stock than it will be now with tariffs in effect. Maybe Doug Ford is gambling that the tariffs will be dropped before LCBO actually has to pay the bill. Or this is a new kind of “Boston Tea Party” protest against unfair taxation. Maybe a smart journalist can find out where all these bottles have gone.
Removal makes a strong statement. Products won’t go to waste. What an opportunity to pivot to Canadian products. Bottom line is we still have access to be our spirits while supporting Canadian businesses and letting our not so friendly neighbour to the south know that we are mad and mean business.
I don’t understand the reasoning behind removing product that was already bought and paid for. That won’t affect American producers at all. They already have our money. Why not leave whatever product they already had on the shelves, get our money back, and when that’s sold off, not order any more?
I’m thinking it makes a statement to pull all U.S. products from the shelves in one day. I don’t know what happens to the products they pulled. We import a lot of U.S. alcohol products so hopefully it will make an impact and send a message to DT (and Musk and Vance and…)
I agree wholeheartedly that we should fight back on these ridiculous tariffs, however, would it not make more sense to continue selling what stock the LCBO has left and just don’t order more when stocks are gone. Clearing shelfs of product already purchased and paid for puts an unnecessary burden on the LCBO to provide storage to keep the product safe and secure for however long nobody knows !
Just silliness. Grade school thinkingnon Canadas part
I would encourage all community and sports facilities that fly the American flag to remove them. You will not see our Maple Leaf in their arenas. I know it is a small act that can be done quickly and easily.
