Karin Terziano has officially registered as a candidate for the newly combined Chaffey/Huntsville ward in the 2026 municipal election, promising a renewed focus on fiscal responsibility, efficient municipal operations and responsive representation.
Terziano, who previously served 12 years on Huntsville Town Council between 2010 and 2022, said she is seeking to return to council because she believes it is time for a change in the municipality’s financial direction.
In announcing her candidacy, Terziano pointed to what she described as significant growth in both municipal spending and staffing over the past four years. She said the Town of Huntsville levy has increased by 37 per cent, or approximately $4.5 million, while the municipal payroll has grown by 41 per cent.
“Many of our residents simply cannot afford these increases,” Terziano said, adding that controlling costs will be one of her key priorities if elected.
Reflecting on her previous time on council, Terziano said she consistently advocated for reducing municipal debt, building financial reserves and keeping tax and staffing increases at what she considered reasonable levels.
“At the conclusion of my three terms on council, the town was in an excellent financial position,” she said.
Among her priorities, Terziano said she wants council to review and repeal bylaws that currently allow spending before the annual municipal budget has been formally approved.
She also pledged to bring what she described as a common-sense approach to development decisions while working to improve staff efficiency across the municipality.
If elected, Terziano said residents can expect an accessible representative who is committed to listening to community concerns and acting on them.
“I will be an approachable council member who will listen to your concerns and act upon them,” she said.
The municipal election will be held on Oct. 26, 2026. Nomination papers continue to be accepted by the Town of Huntsville until the close of nominations on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m
