Joy Jarvis to tackle nine kilometre swim for new Huntsville Hospital

A local woman is preparing to dive into a major endurance challenge to help support the future of healthcare in Muskoka.

Joy Jarvis is a well-known long-distance swimmer and community fundraiser from the Huntsville/Novar area who has spent decades raising money for local healthcare and charitable causes. Over the years, she has completed numerous open-water swims in Muskoka in support of organizations including Hospice Huntsville, Camp Oochigeas, Camp Trillium, and, more recently, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

On Sunday, July 26, Jarvis will take on an ambitious 9-kilometre swim in support of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Raise Muskoka Campaign, which is raising funds for the construction of a new hospital in Huntsville.

Jarvis’s fundraising effort aims to generate support for the community-driven campaign, which seeks to help fund a modern healthcare facility to serve residents and visitors across the region for generations to come.

Organizers are encouraging residents to cheer on Jarvis as she undertakes the challenging open-water swim and to consider making a donation to support local healthcare.

The Raise Muskoka Campaign is one of the largest fundraising efforts in the region’s history, with community support playing a critical role in helping bring the new Huntsville Hospital project to fruition.

With every stroke, Jarvis hopes to make a difference for patients and families who rely on local healthcare services, while inspiring others to get behind a cause that will benefit the entire Muskoka community.

The swim will start at 8 a.m. at the docks by Algonquin Outfitters in Huntsville and is expected to resume at approximately 12:30 p.m.
