It’s Wayback Wednesday brought to you by Cavalcade Color Lab! Huntsville’s train station has been in the news again, with a potential buyer for the historic building having surfaced via an RFP process. (Look for that story on Doppler today.) We thought we’d share a vintage photo. Can you guess the date?

Last week we shared this photo with you:

We didn’t have any information to share about this photo, but Doppler readers offered up these details and comments:

Marg Wiegand – “I remember Beube’s Ladies’ Wear store on the far right. I think this photo is from the 1950s because of that. Do the cars fit that time frame?”

Dave Johns – “How many times did I walk to H.P.S. and enjoyed the scene pictured here? The year, probably summer 1953 or 54. You knew most of the store owners and they knew you and your parents. Couldn’t get away with much back then. Favorite spots were Capital Bowl, Huntsville Hardware, Ruby’s Mens and Boy’s Wear, Eaton’s, Baker’s Barber Shop, Empire Hotel, Tricky’s, Capital Theater, Bowley’s and Parker’s Bakery just to name a few. Good parents made for a wonderful childhood in our little Town of Huntsville.” He added via Facebook: “Shell station to the left and then went Fina. Double parked Chevy 1/2 ton, nothing new for those years. Loved the big lighted signs out front of buildings.”

Mark Burtnik – “The newest car appears to be 1953.”

Pat Allen – “My husband says around 1953.”

Judy Smith – “Wes Payne and Mr Tofflemire had the garage to the left (not seen in this photo – now the Beckers & gas bar). I remember getting gas there with my parents. Mr Payne always spoke to us children in the car while serving gas. I would guess that would be in the 1960s. Thus photo is early 1950s.”

C.A. Wiltse – “Back when Main St was nice and wide with lots of parking. 🙂 ”

Thanks, everyone!
