Sunday, February 10, was all about hockey. The Canada Summit Centre was full of hockey fans cheering on four Otters teams in their quests to take their seasons all the way to the finals.
In the afternoon, Junior C Otters fans cheered on the hometown team in their third playoff game against Alliston at the Don Lough Arena. It was a tough loss for the Otters who fell 3-0 to the Hornets to go down three games in the first round of playoffs. Game four was postponed to Friday, February 15 in Alliston.
Meanwhile, the Jack Bionda Arena was packed with additional hockey lovers on Sunday for the Aquadome Novice Rep Otters who were up against the South Muskoka Bears in game two of a best-of-five quarter-final series.
Down one game in the series, the Aquadome Novice Otters went in to game two fighting for the win against the Bears.
As Coach Jeff Higgs put it, “Our players worked together as a team and did all of the little things well.”
Those little things led to a big win, 3-0 for the Otters, to tie up the series. Their next game is this Saturday, February 16 in Gravenhurst. They’ll be back at home in Huntsville for game four on Sunday, February 17 at 1:40 p.m. on the Jack Bionda ice.
Following the Jr C game, supporters stayed to watch some great game play and hat tricks when the Armstrong Dodge Midget AE Otters met the Ennismore Eagles for the third game of their quarter-final series.
The Armstrong Dodge Otters owned the ice as they kept control of the puck and put it past the Eagles’ goaltender again and again to take both the win, 7-2, and the series, 3-0.
“The team put their best series together with three very strong wins, with the quarter-final clinching game being their finest,” said Coach Mike Lines. The Midget AE Otters will now move on to the semi-finals of the OMHA playoffs, but must wait to see how other series play out to learn who they will challenge next.
Capping off the night on Sunday, the MBRP Major Midget Otters took on the Collingwood Blackhawks in game two of their series.
The Otters fought hard and were quick to set up plays and keep control of the game, taking the wind 2-1.
Game three will be in Collingwood on Sunday, February 17, with the MBRP Major Midget Otters returning to home ice on Saturday, February 23 at 4:10 p.m. at the Don Lough Arena.
Go, Otters, go!
