A Huntsville driver’s terrifying behaviour landed him behind bars, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
Andrew Rostan-Aellan, 30, recently pled guilty to assault, impaired driving, resisting a peace officer and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
Court heard that on May 19, 2023, at roughly 8 pm, the Huntsville OPP received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle. The caller said a man, later identified as Rostan-Aellan, appeared to be heavily intoxicated and was yelling at a woman driving the vehicle and telling her that he wanted to drive.
The caller intervened and the woman exited the vehicle. Rostan-Aellan left in the vehicle but subsequently crashed into a pole. He then drove towards the caller and the woman who had to get out of the way to avoid being struck, court heard.
The police were able to contact Rostan-Aellan by phone but he threatened to stab them.
The police then received multiple calls about a driver on Hwy 11, which turned out to be Rostan-Aellan. They attempted to arrest Rostan-Aellan but he ran into live lanes of traffic saying he had a knife and shouting obscenities at the officers.
Rostan-Aellan was tasered but continued to resist arrest, smashing his head against the police vehicle, court heard.
He ultimately blew double the legal limit for alcohol.
Rostan-Aellan was sentenced to time served, along with 12 months probation and an 18-month driving prohibition.

How much time was served since May 19, 2023? Three months? Was he fined? How’s that for a deterrent?
