Hydro One says all hands on deck trying to restore power to thousands of customers

As of noon on December 2, about 13,500 people were without power in Bracebridge and Gravenhurst, 2,600 in Huntsville and Lake of Bays, and 2,000 in Parry Sound.

For seasonal, lake access only and remote properties, the latest expected restoration time is tomorrow at noon. Unless crews encounter significant issues, the fact that the highway has been cleared and more properties have become accessible will make restoration go faster.

According to Tiziana Baccega Rosa with Hydro One, crews were out in snowmobiles and snowshoes. They restored power to 170,000 customers affected by large amounts of snowfall in a short period of time in Central Ontario.

When asked what caused the outages, Baccega Rosa said it was mostly the heavy snow that felled trees and limbs, which came down and damaged hydro equipment.

“They won’t stop until everyone is restored,” said Baccega Rosa of the hydro crews, adding that all hands are on deck with contractors and crews from other regions in the province assisting.
