With the Ontario government’s announcement yesterday that outdoor recreational amenities can reopen on May 22, the Town of Huntsville said it will open the following facilities: Conroy Park, Lions Lookout Field, Rotary Skateboard Park, municipal tennis courts, Freedom Dog Park, and the soccer fields at McCulley Robertson Recreation Park.
Under provincial restrictions, no outdoor team sports or recreational classes are permitted to be practised or played within these amenities.
The province has also expanded outdoor limits for social gatherings and organized public events to five people, including with members of different households. All other public health and workplace safety measures under the provincewide emergency brake remain in effect, including remaining at home except for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services (including getting vaccinated), for outdoor exercise, or for work that cannot be done remotely.
As the May long weekend approaches, the Town of Huntsville has issued the following community safety reminders and Victoria Day long weekend updates:
Camping on vacant land
The use of tents or recreational vehicles on undeveloped lands is not permitted. Any person camping on a developed lot shall do so in conformance with the Huntsville zoning bylaw and provincial stay-at-home order. For more information on the Town of Huntsville’s zoning bylaw, visit huntsville.ca/bylaws
Campfires and open flames
The fire danger rating in Muskoka is now set at high and extreme caution must be taken with all open flames. Small fires are permitted in most rural areas of Muskoka keeping in mind that no daytime burning is allowed. You must have adequate tools and water to extinguish the fire if the need arises and you must be with your fire at all times. Ensure any campfires are fully extinguished.
