It was a humid morning, but that didn’t stop people from coming out to enjoy a fun-filled walk/run/bike for a great cause. In its 38th year, the Terry Fox Run is still going strong said the 2018 coordinator, Sharon Stahls, with 169 participants gathering to carry on Terry Fox’s legacy.
Motivations Fitness and event host 105.5 Moose FM got participants pumped up for the day, as did Stahls with her motivational cheer: “Who is a Hero? Terry Fox! Who do we believe in? Terry Fox! Who made a difference? Terry Fox! Can Cancer be beat? Yes it can!”
Bikers headed out on the course first, followed by the runners and then the walkers, some with pets and strollers, wrapped up the course. All had the option of completing 1 km, 5 km or 10 km. Volunteers at stations along the route cheered them on to help keep the momentum going.
The event raised $13,763 in donations; t-shirt sales and corporate sponsorships are still to be added to the total. Last year, Huntsville raised $43,000 the Terry Fox Run committee is hoping to match or beat that this year.
If you were not able to make the annual Terry Fox run and want to make a contribution, you can make a donation at terryfox.ca/SharonStahls. Every bit counts!
Stahls thanked all of the sponsors and volunteers for helping to make this event possible.
And she leaves all of the event’s supporters with a quote that she truly believes in: “In 1981, Terry said, ‘Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.’ Thanks to your generosity, cancer research in Canada continues to forge discoveries that Terry could have only dreamed about. Every day we are moving closer to his inspiring dream: a world free of cancer!”
