Huntsville man adds to lengthy criminal record

A Huntsville man found himself back in front of a judge after damaging property.

Appearing recently in Bracebridge court, James Rye, 56, pled guilty to mischief stemming from an incident that occurred on Nov. 7. 2022

On that day, police received a call about property damage to the lobby of an apartment building in Huntsville. Recorded footage showed Rye ripping a security camera out of the wall.

Court heard Rye has an extensive record related to property offences and he’s served significant jail sentences in the past.

Crown Willow Petersen requested 45 days in jail, 12 months of probation, and restitution for the damages.

Justice Cecile Applegate said it appeared Rye was making some progress towards reformation. She opted to impose a suspended sentence, 18 months of probation, and $966 in restitution.

Who says crime does not pay?
Our courts are just a revolving door.
The OPP take them off the streets and
the courts put them right back on.
We call it the justice system?

Wow what a deterrent ? Another court appearance can’t be far in the future !
Solution…incarceration for 5 years will keep him out of court !
