Huntsville Community Choir offers free spring concert

Submitted by Eva Black, Huntsville Community Choir

Part of the Huntsville Community Choir’s mandate is to promote music and music appreciation in our community. To that end, this year’s concert is a little different: we are not charging admission. We are suggesting a small donation at the door. In the past two years, the choir has done several charitable concerts around the community.
Our Spring Concert gives us another opportunity to offer our music to a wider audience.

The Huntsville Community Choir has been rehearsing since January to make ready for their Spring Concert entitled “An Elizabethan Spring”. The program features songs mainly from three collections: “An Elizabethan Spring” and “An Elizabethan Summer” by Stephan Chatman and “Songs and Sonnets” by George Shearing.

“Songs and Sonnets” has a jazz vibe , but is set to words by William Shakespeare. The rest of the program is rounded out with two songs by Ola Gjeilo, a Norwegian composer whom you are sure to fall in love with, and several contemporary jazz selections such as “Lullaby of Birdland”. We will have your heart strings plucked with “The Seal Lullaby” and “Earth Song”.

Louis Tusz and Kristine Knight are an amazing team to work for. Kristine is a gifted piano player, singer and accompanist. Louis is a multi-talented choral director and singer, arranger, teacher, choir member and musician. His choral selections never fail to challenge the choir and captivate audiences.

CONCERT DATES: Friday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m.
PLACE: St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Huntsville
