HSC hosts 41st annual Skokie Skate this weekend

Submitted by the Huntsville Skating Club

The Huntsville Skating Club is excited to welcome over 300 skaters to the Canada Summit Centre for the 41st Annual Skokie Skate Competition. Running Friday, October 25 at 8 a.m. to Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 1 p.m., the event will feature skaters from across the province with daytime and evening events.

Skokie Skate is a Skate Ontario-sanctioned figure skating qualifier for Provincials. Competitors will range from those competing Star 5 to Gold. Events will include free skate and artistic events.

Among the skaters will be the Huntsville Skating Club’s own Sofia Asturi, Haley Heap, and Ainslie Vallentin, all looking to proudly represent their hometown. HSC hopes the community will come out to cheer on these local skaters. Vallentin will be skating Pre-Juvenile Under 13 (on Oct. 25 at 2:50 p.m.) and Star 7 Under 12 (Oct. 25 at 6:35 p.m.). Heap and Asturi will both be skating Star 5 Under 13 (Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.). We hope the community will come out to cheer on these local Huntsville skaters.

This event is also a fundraiser for the Huntsville Skating Club which offers skating lessons from CanSkate, Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program for beginners of any age that teaches fundamental movements and basic skills for all ice sports including hockey, figure skating, speed skating and recreational skating, StarSKate, Competitive Figure Skating and Teen and Adult Skating programs. Registration is still open for all of these programs. Visit the www.huntsvilleskatingclub.ca for details.

The event is open to the public. Admission is $5 per day. Seniors and Children under 12 are $3.
