NOW LIVE! Hospital Auxiliary monthly 50/50 draw supports hospital equipment purchases

Not only is hospital equipment expensive, but hospitals must also raise the funds to purchase it themselves. While the bulk of fundraising for our local hospital is done by the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, they are supported in their efforts by the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary.

The volunteer-run Auxiliary is already a major in-house support for the hospital, providing porters, running the gift shop, offering a helpful hand to patients and visitors at the information desk, and helping in the day surgery clinic and diagnostic imaging, among other things.

And although the Auxiliary is not primarily a fundraising organization, they have raised more than $2 million for hospital equipment since their inception in 1955. Each year they receive a wish list from the hospital and select which items they are able to provide funds to purchase. They have helped with mammography and diagnostic equipment, and are currently in a five-year commitment to purchase two mobile beds per year at a cost of $16,000. All of the funds raised by the organization, save for the salary of a part-time director of volunteers, go toward hospital needs.

“We all need the hospital, and it’s expensive,” says Dave James, Auxiliary volunteer and a past president of the organization. “All new equipment has to be purchased via fundraising.”

Now, the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary is taking on a new venture to raise even more funds in support of the hospital: a monthly 50/50 draw launching on April 1.

The OLGC-approved fundraiser will see the organization and the holder of the winning ticket—drawn on the last working day of the month—split the funds raised that month.

Tickets for April’s draw will be available online at huntsvilleauxiliary.com or at the Branches gift shop starting April 1 at three for $10, 40 for $20, or 100 for $40. The draw will be held April 29. Tune in to 105.5 Moose FM for some fanfare on draw day.
