Exciting new build coming together at Irwin Memorial

Building has started on an exciting addition to Irwin Memorial Public School in Dwight.

“We have fundraised for the past couple of years and have finally started to build a 20×40 outdoor classroom/event structure. We just started the build last week and it’s coming together really nicely!” according to Sarah Roberts, chair of Irwin Memorial Public School council.

There has been an incredible amount of community support as always, and it’s a pretty exciting addition to Irwin, said Roberts. “Mrs. Melanie Maxwell’s outdoor Kinderland program will use the structure daily, it will replace the white tent they are currently using, and it will also be available for all of our family/school events, and for the larger community to use for shade/shelter in the summers when they are enjoying the playgrounds, etc.”

The group has also received a donation of a 20-foot diameter geodesic dome greenhouse to further their veggie garden program. It will be built near the new structure, once it is completed.

“All Kinderland students have been watching us keenly while we work. We are hoping to do a gratitude ceremony for all of our donors and volunteers once it is completely built but that will likely be in the later spring,” said Roberts, who thanked the following members of the community for their support:

  • School council and parent volunteers
  • Dwight lumber
  • Robinsons general store
  • Dwight Lions Club
  • HOLD
  • Webster’s Beacon
  • Lake of Bays Garden Center
  • Westco
  • Erika’s Bakery
  • Muskoka Dippin’ Dots
  • Henrietta’s Pine bakery
  • PC grocery
  • Dr. James Pfaff
  • Metro
Volunteers have been hard at work getting the structure up, which will replace the white tent pictured in the background.
