Conditions are favourable for a brief but intense snow squall as a cold front passes this morning in Muskoka.
Hazards: Brief heavy snowfall with quick accumulations of 5 to 10 cm. Peak snowfall rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour. Near zero visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow. Timing: Early this morning and ending near noon.
Discussion: A sharp cold front will move south through the area this morning. Heavy flurries along this front combined with gusty northwest winds will produce near zero visibility. The frontal squall will clear the region from north to south later this morning. Scattered light flurries are expected to continue into this afternoon with no significant accumulation expected. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
