Utterson woman facing several charges including failing to provide necessaries of life to an infant

A 35-year-old Utterson woman is facing several charges after police responded to concerns about her condition in a Bracebridge parking lot and discovered an infant child alone in a vehicle.

According to the Bracebridge OPP, officers were called to a parking lot on Depot Drive at approximately 10 a.m. on June 20 after a member of the public reported concerns about a woman they believed may have been impaired and intended to drive.

When officers arrived, they located the woman, who had already left the vehicle behind. Police say an infant child was found inside the vehicle.

Following an investigation, officers arrested and charged Kimberly Elliott, 35, of Utterson with operation while impaired, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, operation while prohibited, and failing to provide the necessaries of life to a child.

Elliott is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 4 to answer to the charges.

The charges have not been proven in court.

Police are reminding residents to call 911 if they suspect an impaired driver is operating a vehicle. The OPP noted that reports from members of the public frequently lead to investigations that result in impaired driving charges and help remove potentially dangerous drivers from local roads.
