Environment Canada issues snow squall watch

Issued at 1:46 PM on Thursday, Dec. 5 by Environment and Climate Change Canada for Muskoka and East Parry Sound.

Description

Snow squalls are possible on Friday, December 6, 2024.

Hazards:
Local snowfall accumulations of 25 to 50 cm.
Very poor to near zero visibility at times in heavy snow.

Timing:
Beginning near noon on Friday through Friday night.

Discussion:
Snow squalls off Georgian Bay are expected to move into the area near noon on Friday and persist through Friday night. At this time the axis of highest snowfall amounts extends from Parry Sound southeast to Washago.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Road closures are possible.

Recommended Action

Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
