Edward Henry Hares

With love and respect, we announce the passing of Ted Hares on November 13, 2023.  Ted passed away peacefully at Andy’s house in Port Carling, Ontario.

Loving husband of Janice for 62 years. Cherished father of Jodi and husband Rick Madden. Much loved grandpa to Nicholas Madden and Taylor and her husband Brad Currie.

Ted was the son of the late Walter and Madeline Hares and grandson of the original land settlers Henry and Elizabeth Hares who settled on 200 acres in Allensville in 1868 where he lived his last days.

Ted worked in the municipal field for 25 years, first as a clerk, treasurer, and welfare officer in the Utterson area.  He then moved to the Town of Huntsville when district government was introduced, retiring in 1995.

Ted was predeceased by his sister Mary McKee (Ross) and his brother Bert Hares (Marilyn) and nephew David Hares.

He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will also be missed by his furry friends Zoe, Sylvester, and Mavrick.

We send our heartfelt thanks to Closing the Gap and The Friends for their wonderful support team, Huntsville District Memorial Hospital – Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare team, Dr. Andy MacMillan and Muskoka Paramedic Services.  The family expresses their deep gratitude to Andy’s House for the care and compassion shown to Ted in his final chapter.

Cremation has taken place and a gathering will be held in the spring of 2024.

In memory of Ted the family requests that donations be made to Andy’s House, 16 West Street. Port Carling, ON P0B 1J0 or to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, 100 Frank Miller Drive, Unit 4, Huntsville, ON P1H 1H7

My sincere condolences to the Hares family.
I started my long and winding municipal career under the leadership of Ted back in the early 90’s at the Town of Huntsville.
A kind, polite, hard working, true gentleman. I learned a lot from him back then, and did my best to carry his style of work ethic with me.

  3. Len Clarke says:
