More examples of when to use the LAW of Total Tricks
Today we look at more examples of when you might respond to your partner using the LAW (LAW of total Tricks).
Case 1:
Spades xxx
Hearts Kxx
Diamonds AKxx
Clubs AKx
Case 1: Partner opens One Diamond opposite your hand above. This is a tough one! You know that you probably have game and maybe slam. You cannot use the LAW here. You are too strong. Lie in a minor. Bid Two Clubs forcing your partner to bid again. You may end up in No Trump.
Case 2:
Spades xx
Hearts xxx
Diamonds AKxxxx
Clubs xx
Case 2: Partner opens One Diamond. He might have only three Diamonds. You respond Three Diamonds. By using the LAW you show you are weak with six-card support for Diamonds. Partner can now work out his bidding strategy.
Case 3:
Spades xxx
Hearts QJxx
Diamonds xxxx
Clubs xx
Case 3: Partner opens One Heart. Using the LAW you jump to Three Hearts thus showing partner a weak hand with four-card Heart support. Partner will now know where to go with a strong hand or just PASS with a minimum hand. Obviously, you want to be sure that your partner plays the LAW bid before making this bid.
