DALE, Dr. William Norton
April 26, 1932 – December 27, 2023
DALE, Margaret Anne (Freure)
November 16, 1932- December 27, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” and his beloved wife Margaret.
Margaret passed away in the early hours of December 27th from a sudden and unexpected medical event after spending a joyful Christmas with her beloved family. Bill passed away thirteen hours later that same day after succumbing to a broken heart while looking at photos of their life together. Both were in their 92nd year and recently had settled in the town of Port Hope, Ontario.
Bill was born in the small town of Schomberg, Ontario on April 26, 1932, and went on to graduate from Guelph Veterinary College at the top of his class where he was destined to meet his bride-to-be, Margaret. Their romance blossomed into a devoted marriage lasting 68 years. Margaret was born in Guelph. Ontario on November 16, 1932, and became a school teacher for a short period before she married Bill and became a mother to three boys. With Margaret’s full support, Bill would later fulfill his true calling and return to medical school ultimately becoming a respected medical doctor/surgeon with a career that began with a residency in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, returning to specialize at the University of Toronto and subsequently establishing a practice in Scarborough, Uxbridge, and ultimately ending his career in Huntsville, Ontario.
Margaret was a devoted mother, and an invaluable partner to Bill in life and in the office, but her greatest passions were horseback riding, reading, and gardening, spending countless hours with a shovel in her hand nurturing her many plants and shrubs. Both Margaret and Bill loved adventure, open spaces, the cottage life on Lake Kawagama, and the country life, living most of their time together on the farm in Uxbridge and Claremont, where they raised their three boys and lived life to the fullest. After Bill retired, they spent many winters in Florida where they enjoyed life with their American and Canadian friends.
Bill and Margaret are survived by their three sons and their families, Rob and his wife Beverly, Scott and his wife Lori, Peter and his wife Anne as well as Margaret’s brother, Robert James Freure and his wife Barbara. They are also the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren, Taylor, Robbie, Ryan, William, John, Braeden, and Jessica. Bill was predeceased by his younger brother Alsie Dale.
As all of you know, we have been blessed to have Bill and Marg in our lives. The little farm boy from Schomberg and this country girl from Guelph would go on to brighten the world and all those who interacted with them. Above all else, they will be remembered for their unwavering deep devotion and love for each other, their family, and their many friends.
Friends will be received at WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfork St. Guelph Ont. from 10:00-11:00 AM with a service at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 29th, 2024. A reception will follow in the Wall-Custance Reception Centre. The ceremony will also be available on ZOOM for those who are unable to make the trip. Please check back for the ZOOM link at a later date. While Margaret loved flowers, donations to Huntsville Hospital would be appreciated.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Dale but Dr. Dale saved both mine and my daughters life with his expertise. He also forwarded that expertise to numerous other doctors when I became pregnant with my twins. He has always held my utmost respect and admiration. It’s with a SAS heart that I hear of their passing but they have left a legacy of a love story to be inspiration to others. My sincerest condolences to their family.
