From the District Municipality of Muskoka
Muskoka’s Clear Bag Program officially launched at the curb on March 3rd, and we’re excited to share some early results!
Based on District staff audit results during the first week (March 3-7):
~60% of households participated in the program
39% reduction in garbage collected at the curb
23% increase in organic collected at the curb
Over 215 new green bin requests were made this week—amazing efforts to reduce waste, cut GHGs, and extend our landfill space!
Way to go, Muskoka! Let’s keep up the great work.

Just wondering….is the new service going to audit the actual garbage in the new transparent bags?
But you also skipped collection in the weeks prior wich falsely increased the garbage collection so when you then compared to this week it looks like there was a reduction, in fact it’s just back to normal.
Additionally the snow banks all got pushed back on collection day and green bins everywhere were buried or ruined so yes, people everywhere are looking to replace them.
Switching to clear bags is not rocket science. Just put your waste where it belongs. For those complaining about where to find bags in town. Independent and Freshco have them.
As per norm…..higher taxes every year with less services
Yes does the grocery stores get a whole bunch of clear bags? I have always put my recycle in clear bags. Now i have to put my garbage in clear bags. What a waste.
The problem of most of us is Where do we get small clear bags. Did anyone tell the stores about the clear bags?
