The Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare hospital redevelopment saga continues.
A supplementary motion has been added to the District Municipality of Muskoka agenda to be discussed when council meets at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 15.
The motion added to the agenda shows the mover as Township of Muskoka Lakes Mayor Peter Kelley and the seconder as Muskoka Lakes Councillor Guy Burry. It calls for the local District share commitment of the hospital redevelopment funds to be conditional “on the final design plan being approved by Muskoka District Council prior to MAHC submitting its final design to the Province.”
The motion also notes that “the redevelopment of the hospitals has drastically been altered since the original plan was released.”
See the motion below:
“Muskoka Algonquin Health Care Redevelopment Moved by P. Kelley and seconded by G. Burry
WHEREAS the Health Services Committee passed Motion R49/2023-HS at its September 21, 2023 meeting, which was subsequently amended and adopted by Muskoka District Council at its October 16, 2023 meeting;
AND WHEREAS Muskoka Algonquin Health Care’s (MAHC) design concept for the redevelopment of the hospitals has drastically been altered since the original
plan was released;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the District’s Local Share commitment, as previously approved, be made conditional on the final design plan being approved by Muskoka District Council prior to MAHC submitting its final design to the Province.”

I live in bracebridge why should my tax money go to the hospital in huntsville. We should get the exact same hospital as up there. Why not make our hospital bigger with all the services that they won’t to put up there. We exalent doctors and nurses here to.
Agreed. Let’s just let the people entrusted with this get on with it, so we can finally make some progress on expanded and modernized health care for the whole region. I am in Huntsville, so sure, I would love a new full-service, modernized hospital here. But I would rather have complete services split between two towns in Muskoka rather than end up with nothing getting done because we dragged it for on so long that we lost all the provincial funding we had at our fingertips.
Fellow citizens of Huntsville we are going to get railroaded if we are not careful!! Lets get this going now the District is taking sides !! do they not represent all of Muskoka and should not be interfering at this late stage
Bracebridge also clarifies it’s position to MAHC.

If Bracebridge, most of the towns and townships in Muskoka and the District withdraw local funding for MAHC’s disastrous plan it’s dead in the water.
Withdrawing funding is the next step.
Save Our Hospital as it says at the Norwood theatre, other businesses and many, many lawn signs.
MAHC continues to ignore residents, doctors, our MPP and the Bracebridge mayor.
How many hundreds of millions of dollars has MAHC cost taxpayers by presenting unacceptable plans over many years?
While construction costs have skyrocketed by hundreds of millions of dollars?
Why are these board members still present after failing again and again?
They can’t be trusted.
MAHC dismissed much less expensive plans to renovate and add beds to the existing two sites.
MAHC needs to be dismissed.
For comparison here is what Midland is getting for less than half the local share. 240 beds.
A big increase in Midland not a big decrease in Bracebridge hospital beds as MAHC has planned.

The design of our future healthcare system is a complicated and highly technical job.
It should be left to our well-trained and well-informed medical experts.
Do you want the health care experts withholding their taxes is they don’t get their way with the building and road construction experts?
