CUPE has agreed to return to the table says Minister of Education

UPDATE: As CUPE and the Province return to the table, students will be back to in-person learning tomorrow as schools reopen.

The following statement was issued by Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education this afternoon, November 7, 2022:

“CUPE has agreed to withdraw their strike action and come back to the negotiating table. In return, at the earliest opportunity, we will revoke Bill 28 in its entirety and be at the table so that kids can return to the classroom after two difficult years. As we have always said and called for, kids need to be back in the classroom, where they belong.”

Because the legislator is not currently sitting, MPPs are expected to be called back early for the law to be repealed this week.

Ford announced earlier in the day that his government was willing to repeal the law, but only if CUPE ends its walkout which has closed schools at Trillium Lakelands District School Board for in-person learning and hundreds of other schools across the province.
