Council to vote on hiring two new contract positions at a cost of $190,000

One of the items the newly elected Huntsville Council will have to vote on when it meets this Monday is whether to approve two new contract positions at an annual cost of 190,000, plus expenses.

According to a staff report to be presented at the meeting Monday, those positions would be required in order to support three new committees “requiring extensive support in order to ensure their success” being proposed by Huntsville’s new Mayor.

The new committees are:

  • Active Transportation and Public Transit;
  • Community Service Master Plan and Waterfront Strategy and
  • Environment and Climate Change.

The report further states that “in order to support the new committees in evaluating the appropriate Town plans and studies, as well as to coordinate and provide guidance, the following two (2) new contract positions will be required: 1. Project Manager; 2. Project Information Coordinator.”

Councillor Dan Armour will serve as Deputy Mayor and Scott Morrison will serve as the alternate.

You can find the full report, including who will be chairing which committees, here (Pdf).
