Community COVID-19 vaccine clinics will be walk-in only beginning Mar. 19

Effective Saturday, March 19, 2022, most public health COVID-19 vaccination community clinics in Simcoe Muskoka will offer appointments by walk-in only and will operate as per the schedule on the health unit’s website.

Clinic walk-in schedules, including pop-ups and the GO-VAXX bus, are available on the health unit’s website and social media accounts and include up-to-date information.

Please be advised that the COVID-19 immunization clinic at 29 Sperling Dr. in Barrie will continue to take both appointments and walk-ins.

The health unit strongly encourages those who are eligible to get their vaccine, particularly a booster dose, as soon as they can as a booster dose helps to reduce one’s risk for severe illness and chance of requiring hospitalization if infected with COVID-19. Youth aged 12 to 17 are eligible for a booster shot at least six months (or 168 days) after they received their second dose, while adults 18 years and older can receive a booster three months (84 days) after their second dose.

Individuals attending clinics are reminded to bring a health card, a list of any medications they are taking, wear a loose-fitting shirt that allows easy access to the upper arm, and bring any assistive devices as needed (e.g., scooter, wheelchair, cane).

As of March 21, when provincial masking requirements are lifted, SMDHU continues to recommend masks and physical distancing as important prevention strategies at community vaccination clinics.

Some pharmacies continue to provide vaccines as well. Call or check your pharmacy’s website for more information.
