It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Thompson on February 4th at the age of 76, after a brief battle with cancer.
Chris will be remembered for her feisty spirit, and the way she always lived life to the fullest. She loved her family and friends fiercely and was the best Grammy to her grandkids. Always up for an adventure, she loved travelling around the world with her family and friends, and especially loved her winter home Florida crew. A very passionate Legion member, Chris volunteered many hours there and was sure to never miss her Friday nights and Saturday afternoons with the Legion gang.
Chris is survived by her sons Brad Stapleton and Brent Stapleton (Tascha), her stepson Geoff Thompson (Nicole), her stepdaughter Tara Hall (Bob), her grandchildren Brandon (Courteney) and Lucy Stapleton and Ashley and Kayla Hall, her sisters Liz Brunt (Bill) and Jeanette Benit (Rick), her brothers Cook Maartense (Connie) and Peter Maartense (Wendy), her brother in law Don Thompson (Marion) and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband Ken, her parents Jan and Christina, her mother-in-law Enid Brown, and her sister-in-law Pat Thompson.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Chris’s friends Lana Austin, Holly Chantler, and Vicky Menard for all the support they offered to ensure we could honour Chris’s wish to remain at home until her passing.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Huntsville Legion. A celebration of life will take place later in the spring. Please revisit the Mitchell Funeral Home page for upcoming details.

Our deepest condolences on the loss of Chris. She was a firecracker and a lot of fun. Bill and I ran into her often on our walks and enjoyed talking with her not to mention the years in real estate that we worked with her on offers.
My path crossed often with Chris when were both selling real estate. I always enjoyed working with Chris and Ken in my early days in the real estate business. It’s hard to believe they’re both gone. My condolences to the family.
